Undecided..........
First off this post is for my dear lawyer friend Taylor. Hopefully he can help me see and or understand politics a little better?
The last time I posted about this is when "Mitt" pulled out of the race and i was a little sad about that! If there is one thing I can tell you for sure about me is I AM SO NOT INTO POLITICS! I have a hard time understanding and trusting ANYTHING ANYONE has to say about MY country! I mean we need someone who cares about our kids as much as we do and who cares about this whole economy too! I live somewhere where the cost of living is pretty good but some of you live where just living is a struggle!! UGH! Why do we have to struggle if we are paying taxes?! Why should we let the government dictate what we do or choose? I have so much on my mind but HATE to watch these men on t.v. because I feel like they do NOT have our best interests at heart..... I mean lets ALL be honest here .... do they REALLY? Another thing, I really do not like having to pick Republican. or Democrat.! I just want to pick the best man for the job. Is there one? I was watching the "Today Show" while at the gym and they had a bunch of women on the show who were "undecided" and I thought that was so interesting to me because this country is so divided by our "party" choice. Anywho this post is NOT to come down on anyone but should I even vote? Is it worth it and is there really someone WORTH voting for? Help!!!!!
P.S. One more thing that gets UNDER my skin is how the government is so involved with pharmaceutical companies and how it's all about the money when it comes to drugs! There are thousands of drugs out there that are doing more wrong then good! I really think there are cures for most diseases but the drug companies won't let that happen because they would lose on ton of money! Okay done!

I sent you an email. It may not tell you who to vote for but it is a reason why you should.
Thanks Liza!! That email is so true! I would be doing women wrong if I didn't vote! they fought for that right and now we have it and should use it!! thanks so much!
You should always vote. I am not going to tell you who to vote for or even give you some facts. Find the issues that are important to you and then research those issues according to the candidates. There you will have an answer.
In all reality the President has minimal power over the economy. He is under the command of Congress. He can propose a budget, but the Congress must pass it. He can cut or raise taxes, but the Congress must OK that too. The reason why the economy is so big in this election is because (1) it is down, and (2) both Obama and Mccain were in the Senate during some important votes regarding the housing crisis within the past 3 years.
Taxes are a big issue because the Bush tax cuts will roll back to the Clinton days. If you think the economy is bad right now, wait until the cuts roll back. May business are already hurting. Now force them to pay more in taxes, and they will either close shop or have to lay off workers. That will further increase unemployment...yadda yadda yadda the cycle continues.
My two biggest issues are the economy and homeland security. I do not think Obama or Biden have a clue regarding how to fix the economy. He wants to raise Corporate Tax and tax the rich...those who own successful businesses. He wants to then give a check to those in need, not cut their taxes as he has said (read his webpage). This is called wealth redistribution which is the main pillar in socialism. This is ok if Obama wants create a short term stimulation. If you want long term economic success you have to encourage saving. That is the problem right now. People are so thin on money they are spending more than they have. The economy will only thrive if people save money. You do this by cutting capital gains taxes, cutting the death tax, and combat inflationary prices.
I heard Robert Woodward, famous journalist who busted Watergate wide open, said that the President is the Commander of One thing...the military. They may think they are the commander of the economy or healthcare, but they are not. Now, if I have to choose between Obama and Mccain regarding homeland security and fighting terrorists...it's an easy choice for me.
In closing, don't get bogged down in all the hateful campaigning. Both sides do it and it really turns me off. If you see something on the tube or if you read something in print, research it to find out whether its true. I always look foward to election years. It gives me something to learn about. I ask you to do the same.
I lied. I am going to give some facts. Just a little though.
Taylor.. that was really good! I knew I could count on you to unscramble my brain. Makes a bit more since.. ya know! Do you watch alot of tube stuff or do you read most of it?
Hey Tiffany!
Your blog is so super cute! I am so glad you commented on mine and left me your blog address. I didn't know you did photography! Awesome and amazing! You are so talented. Your little family is so sweet! So glad to have a way to keep in touch!
Liesel
sounds like Eliza sent you the email I was going to send, it is powerful and ren=minds us what was sacrificed so we could enjoy this choice, too bad the choices aren't as much fun.
loved what taylor said, i chuckled too when he said he wouldn't give "facts" and then did, its so hard not to just say what you believe, I think its great.
I agree with so much of what he said, not all of it, but a lot. The idea of saving is right on, but you can't make people save, no economic plan is going to make that happen. Its frustrating.
And he's right about the military being the presidents primary role, however I strong disagree that McCain is an easy choice when it comes to that. He is a war hero, in a completely different kind of war. How many times has Bush told us this is not the same old warfare? Its not. Iraq's "situation" technically isn't even a war anymore and hasn't been for how many years? We don't need a war strategist, someone who is going to "holdout" like he did in Vietnam; we need someone who can communicate and draw a line and say enough is enough and be more committed to OUR HOMELAND security and not as much as Iraq's. The billions that are being spent in Iraq is obsurd! We have bridges collapsing, hurricanes destroying, and shores insuffciently protected that need the billions and Obama is committed to that.
The terrorists will train, plot, and survive ANYWHERE, we need to protect our land and support our troops, who deserve a much needed rest and recupe time before we can ever be the strong Armed FOrces we once were.
(my 2 cents) :)
good luck!
(1) No one has been more adament about securing our borders more than Mccain. Look at his record and look at what AZ has done with the borders. Don't forget that Obama voted "present" last year when voting for an immigration/border bill
(2)Have you forgotten 9/11? The borders are no longer the definition of Homeland. The world has shruk significantly. Thirty years ago, if a foreign military coup was NOT walking through your streets you felt safe. Today is a much different time peiod. This country can be under attack and we have no clue it is even happenig. Terrorists have become much more sophisticated. They ruin banks, economies, computer systems, oil wells etc.
Don't belittle our armed forces by saying they can be great again. In my eyes, this is one of the cleanest wars we have ever had, and our armed forces have never been better. We have been in Iraq for a little of 5 years and only 4,000 casulaties. We lost 114,000 PER YEAR in WWII, 80,000 PER YEAR in WWI. We have killed and arrested many terrorists while in Iraq.
***Don't give that jingoistic diatribe that al 'Quaeda was not in Iraq and Iraq had nothing to do with al'Queda. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi formed the al queda network in Iraq in the early 1990's. Where was he killed? Iraq.***
Iraq's safety is our safety. Don't people see that? The more nations who harbor terrorists the more resources we must spend to "smoke them out". Safety within the borders of Iran, Venezuela, Colombia etc. will only make this country safer. Tighting our borders and forgetting about what happens to the rest of the world is a rediculous policy.
Additionally, we are not dealing with soverign nations. Who is Obama going to speak to diplomatically? Is he going to walk into Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran and sit down with rogues living in huts and call for a truce? This is not the Soviet Union my dear. There is no Gorbie and we cannot outspend the many billionaire individuals and countries who fund terrorist warfare. Diplomatic policy works only when someone is willing to talk back. If Obama can get Osama and his ballsacks to speak with him, then I'll be the first to vote for him.
You can have a plan to make people save. One it's called Social Security reform. It would take me 6 pages to explain how reform would force people to save for their own retirement. Two it's called reducing or eliminating capital gains tax. Three it's called reducing the "death" tax. I worked for an Estate planning law firm this last summer. People went crazy trying to reduce their estate by either spending like there was no tomorrow or gifting it away. If the death tax were lowered. Say to equal your tax bracket upon death people would actually save their money in the bank rather than doing the alternative. Right now if you die, and your estate is above 2 million, 50% of that goes to the government. The estate is liable for the bill. Kids are forced to sell family homes just to pay the bill. It's retarted that the govenment feels entitled to take someone's money because they die. Oh yeah, Obama wants to lower the limit to $1 million and raise the bracket to 55%.
(3) You're right McCain is not for fixing our infrastructure like bridges and roads. Nor is he for helping those hurricane victims. I cannot believe he said that in his last speech. Give me a break! Oooo, Obama is for fixing bridges and helping those left homeless by the hurricanes. Who isn't. Let me guess. Obama is for not killing old ladies, and Obama feels very strongly that kids should not be forced to smoke crack.
***Those are all state problems and not the Federal Government's job***
This probably didn't make much sense. I wrot it over a time peiod of 45 minutes while at work. There won't be much of a flow to it. For that I am sorry.
I didn't read any of those long comments, I will do that later.
You know what your beliefs are. Vote for who supports those things. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE should tell you who to vote for and you should ABSOLUTELY NOT ask anyone who you should vote for. The less government is involved the better, but I guess that is telling you what party I support...NOT OBAMA!!!
I know Bob can argue a pretty good point, but if they are contrary to YOUR beliefs, it is irrelevant.
I didn't realize that Osama's cronies were actually called ballsacks. :) I like it.
I would like to congratulate Tay on the comment about the hurricane and the bridges. So true. People need to recognize the difference between the state and federal governments responsibilities. OF COURSE ANY PRESIDENT would help when it's needed. Some people just love when our government gets involved in everything. I'm not one of them.
Oh, and my husband is an owner of a small business. If Obama is elected, I am pretty sure we will be selling our beautiful home and moving into my parents basement.
Actually, I would like to thank Tay for all his points, and I will also thank Channel for being involved as well.
Man.. holy comments! It is really awesome to read! So much info too!
Well the Church says.... just kidding. HAHAHAHA!!! Just KIDDING! I think I'll stay out of this round but I enjoy reading the comments.
Oh and KJ, finally a good reason to vote for Obama... you'll live in Ut. County by ME! Just kidding.
I love my smart brother, P.S.
i had this long response and refuted the attack from taylor, but you know the more i thought about it the more i realized it doesn't matter. im not changing anybody's mind and tiffany i think you are way more decided than you might realize.
my vote counts as much as taylor's, we'll just see how the rest of this country feels in about month.
but i will say i so fundamentally disagree with what was said it blows my mind. there is as much spin comin out of taylor as there is from the media.
Oh good. So we both agree that the liberal media puts a spin on things! Hahahahaha! K, don't get mad at that, I just had to say it!
Thanks Taylor, whoever you are. I too am now a little more educated on what is going on. When it comes down to it, I know I will vote for the canidate with the most experience, but I still want to learn as much as possible. I am twenty-five years old and this will be the first year I vote. Tiffany, I can't believe how big Paige is getting. She doesn't have the toddler look any more, she looks like a little girl. Your children are so cute. When are you coming to Utah?
Actually everone of the attackes met with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi who recruited them to al 'queda and "hooked" them up with bin Laden. Even if Iraq didn't have ties with 9-11 it doesn't matter. what did we learn from that waste of money/9-11 commission? That we should have preemptively stopped the attacks by attacking the terrorists before they hit us. Are yiu telling me there were no terrorrists in Iraq willing to attack us?
I am not spinning. I repeated words you said, i.e., "before we can ever be the strong Armed Forces we once were"
I am not dumbing down diplomacy. We are not at war w/ Afghanistan and Pakistan. We are at war with terrorists who live in those countries. Certainly we can sit with the leaders of those countries, but all that does is allows us to enter them and destroy the networks. There is no diplomacy in this war.
I too love my neighbor, I agree. Why must the federal government do it? It is not its job. States need to pick up the slack, and most of all private citizens need to pick up the slack. Right now I am poor as hell. I have a mortgage and I just got out of school. I had to take out a mortgage size loan to pay for school. Right now, because of taxes, I can't pay my bills, and why? because the government thinks they no what to do with MY money more than I do. Real fair and utopian.
We will have to agree to disagree on everything.
Last thing about Obama. The economy came up a lot last night, obviously. I wated the debates twice last night and Obama kept on saying we need to fix Wall Street. He is absolutelty right. McCain has it right though. 14 times McCain said we need to fix Wall Street...AND Washington. McCain gets it. Wall Street is about 1/3 of the problem. Washington is broken. Why wouldn't Obama say, with regards to the economy, that Washington doesn't need to be fixed. Isn't he the candidate for change? In reality he is the one pushing the same old Bush policies...to spend spend spend. The only difference between Bush and Obama is that Obama wants to spend more and wants to spend it on different things. I guess Obama doesn't understand how the strength of the dollar works. the more government assistance the weaker the dollar gets. If you have money now and Obama wins. Spend it like crazy because it won't be worth a dime next year.
My favorite part of the debate last night was the 8(?) times Obama said he agrees with McCain, and the 5(?) times McCain said to Obama that Obama just doesn't understand. Um, because he doesn't!!! Lack of experience people. Oh and that was proven when McCain had actually been everywhere, and Obama just refers to them.
K, the end. Tiff, I say no more political posts. This is a decision for you to make and research, and talk with Terry about. It is getting too close to the election and opinions will get to heated. You don't want your blog to be a petri dish for contention. The more heated it gets the more contention there will be.
Love your guts!!!
Dang...I went away for the weekend and missed these comments!
I was gone too and missed the fun.
I think that Taylor got it right in this paragraph, "You should always vote. I am not going to tell you who to vote for or even give you some facts. Find the issues that are important to you and then research those issues according to the candidates. There you will have an answer."
Minus all of the facts following. :)
It is your decision to make alone. Good luck!
Nichole,
Thanks for acknowledging what I presented as facts.
